The Detroit Lakes boys basketball team evened its record through six games and won a second Mid-State Conference game with a 66-47 victory over Staples-Motley on the road Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Zack Oistad and Gabe Hanninen led Detroit Lakes with 18 and 17 points, respectively.
DL built a 10-point lead early up 16-6 and led big at the half 35-21.
Oistad dominated in the paint scoring his points on eight field goals and a pair of free throws. He had a big double-double with a game-high 18 rebounds to match his point total.
Hanninen struck from outside making half of DL’s six three-point shots in the game.
Matthew Tobkin had nine points, Nate Cihak had eight. Christian Solberg and Caeden Yliniemi each added six points, Solberg’s coming from behind the arc. Yliniemi had a team-high five assists.
The Lakers made 12 of 16 freebies (75 percent).
Isaiah Schultz led the Cardinals (2-2, 1-1) with 13 points.
Detroit Lakes is off for the remainder of 2019.
The Lakers (3-3, 2-0) look for a consecutive win for the first time this season at the Perham Crossover Classic in early January. DL faces Anoka (1-4) Saturday, Jan. 4 at 2:15 p.m., at The Hive.
