Reed Mace’s runner in the late with four seconds remaining in regulation provided Detroit Lakes with a 66-64 victory on the road over the Prowlers Tuesday, Jan . 14 at the Brickhouse in Thief River Falls.
Trailing 64-63, Prowler senior Gunnar Aune picked up a foul on DL’s Zack Oistad and made the second of two foul shots to knot the game at 64.
The Lakers had one timeout to use, but head coach Markus Okeson elected to keep it in his pocket leading to Mace driving the lane for the game-winner.
The Prowlers got the ball to Brevyn Lingen at mid-court but his three for the win was off the mark.
DL led by six points at the half 34-28 but the Prowlers came out of the locker room on a 16-2 run to lead 44-36. The Lakers answered with 10 of the next 12 points to tie the game at 46-all and led by as many as 10 points down the stretch at 63-53 on consecutive buckets by Tate Kerzman, Mace and Max Gunderson.
Thief River Falls started the game on a 15-8 run off the opening tip. Detroit Lakes finished the half on a 26-13 run to the halftime horn.
The Prowlers’ Storm Manning led all scorers with 27 points; Aune added 20 as the duo combined for 73 percent of the home team’s points.
Three Lakers were in double figures led by Max Gunderson’s 21 points and eight rebounds. Gabe Hanninen added 17 points; Mace had 15.
Thief River Falls dropped its fourth game in a row falling to 6-5 overall.
The Lakers (5-6) are home Thursday, Jan. 16 against Alexandria (8-4) in a Section 8AAA matchup.
