The Perham Yellowjackets held Detroit Lakes to 12 first half points en route to a 49-35 non-conference girls basketball victory at The Hive in Perham Tuesday, Jan. 20.
Perham used an 18-2 run to seize control of the game in the first half. The Yellowjackets were quick on their cuts and used the extra pass to get open looks at the basket. Katie Johnson scored 15 of her game-high 20 points in the first half and was one of three Perham shooters in double figures.
The Lakers were outworked on the boards. Perham corralled 13 first half rebounds, while holding Detroit Lakes to just three.
Despite the struggles in the first half, the Lakers battled back and cut the lead down to 11 points late in the second half. However, Perham was able to hit from the free throw line to ice the game.
The Lakers held Perham to only 14 points in the second half with the Yellowjackets scoring nine of those points at the free throw line. Perham only hit two field goals in the second half: one lay-up and a 3-pointer.
Alex Bettcher was the lone Laker in double figures for Detroit Lakes. She finished with 16 points. Sophie Gunderson added eight points for the Lakers.
DL shot 50 percent from the line only getting to the stripe six times.
Stella Raser has 11 points for Perham; Sydney Anderson scored 10.
Perham improved to 10-5 on the season.
The Lakers dropped to 6-8 overall and travel to Thief River Falls Tuesday, Jan. 21 looking for a season sweep of the Prowlers (1-14). The Lakers won the first game of the series 52-45 in DL on January 3.
