The Detroit Lakes boys basketball team improved to 4-0 in the Mid-State Conference winning at Park Rapids Tuesday 72-61.
The Lakers used a 7-0 run out of the halftime break to build a 10-point lead and never looked back leading by as many as 16 points in the second half.
DL trailed by as many as seven points in the early stages of the first half but took a 25-23 late on a Max Gunderson field goal on the third lead change of the opening 18 minutes.
The Panthers’ Noah Morris tied the game at 25 before Tate Kerzman drained a three to send the Lakers to the break up 28-25.
Reed Mace, Gabe Hanninen and Gunderson led the charge out of halftime as DL was up 35-25 before the Panthers scored.
DL outscored Park Rapids by a dozen points in the second half to cruise to victory.
Gunderson led all scorers with 23 points. Kerzman and Hanninen had 14 and 10, respectively.
Nick Michaelson was the lone Panther in double figures with 21 points.
Park Rapids dropped to 1-13 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
The Lakers have won three of the past four games to improve to 6-7 overall. Detroit Lakes hosts Crosby-Ironton (9-4) Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7:15 p.m.
The Rangers are tied with Pequot Lakes at 3-1 in the Mid-State, one game back of the Lakers. Crosby’s lone conference loss was to Pequot at home. DL defeated Pequot at home by one point in mid-December.
