Alex Bettcher scored the final nine points, seven from the free throw line, to cap a game-high 25-point performance leading the Detroit Lakes girls basketball team to a 47-42 Mid-State Conference victory at Pequot Lakes Thursday, Jan. 23.

Bettcher scored nearly half her points from the stripe making 12 of 16 attempts (75 percent) and was joined in double figures by Sophie Gunderson with 10 points.

DL held a slim 23-21 lead at the halftime break and got scoring from only five players.

Abby Larson had six points, Sarah Tangen four and Ava Gilbert added a field goal.

The Patriots had no players in double figures but used the bench putting nine players on the scoresheet led by Kelsi Martini’s nine points.

The Lakers completed a season sweep of Pequot Lakes after winning in overtime in the third game of the season. The victory kept pace with Park Rapids atop the Mid-State standings.

The Panthers defeated Crosby-Ironton 53-44 in Crosby. Both DL and Park Rapids are 4-1 in conference play - a game up on C-I in third place at 3-2.

Park Rapids defeated the Lakers in DL in early January. The two teams meet again at Park Rapids in mid-February. Both teams have five conference games remaining.

Detroit Lakes (7-9) travels next to No. 2AA Fergus Falls Tuesday, Jan. 28 to finish a four-game road trip. The Otters (14-1) have won 14 consecutive games.

Prowlers shutdown DL at home

Thief River Falls held Detroit Lakes to nine first half points, all free throws, to pick up the Prowlers’ second victory of the season 50-28 at the Brickhouse Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Thief River Falls raced out to a 21-9 halftime lead and outscored the Lakers by 10 in the second half led by Brea Pickett’s game-high 19 points. She scored 15 of her points in the second half.

Sarah Tangen led the Lakers with 10 points.

The Prowlers defeated Bagley 69-17 Thursday to improve to 3-14. The two-game win streak was the first for Thief River Falls since February of 2018.
