Detroit Lakes swept the season series from Crosby-Ironton and won for the ninth time in 10 Mid-State games to clinch sole possession of the conference title in a 56-52 victory on the Rangers’ floor Thursday, Feb. 20.

The Lakers erased a seven-point halftime deficit outscoring the Rangers 34-23 in the second half.

DL struggled from the free throw line making five of 14 attempts (35%) and made 22 of 55 (40%) from the field. The Lakers had seven three-point baskets in the game shooting 7 for 20 (35%).

Sarah Tangen led DL with 13 points. The Lakers had three other players in double figures: Sophie Gunderson 12; Jacee Hauser 12 and Alex Bettcher 11.

Ranger senior Tori Decent scored her 1,000th career point in the game. She is the third C-I player to surpass 1,000 points this year. Juniors Karli Nixon and Lily Peterson reached the mark earlier this season.

The Lakers completed conference play with a two-game edge over both Pequot Lakes and Park Rapids for the Mid-State championship. Park Rapids was the only team to beat DL in conference play.

Detroit Lakes (14-11) finishes the regular season at home against Moorhead (17-8) Friday, Feb. 21.
