Bemidji, Crookston sweep Laker tennis team

BEMIDJI -The Laker girls tennis team dropped a pair of matches in a triangular with Crookston and Bemidji Tuesday.

Bemidji blanked the Lakers 7-0 winning six of seven matches in straight sets.

“We tried out a new lineup hoping to have a few competitive matches, but Bemidji outplayed us,” DL Head Coach Tanner Beauchman said.

Stella Foltz opened her two-singles match with a 6-4 set win, dropped the second set 6-1 and lost a very close tiebreaker in the third set to Taylor Offerdahl 10-8.

“Stella played an excellent match. She battled right to end, but fell just short.”

Bemidji is in line for the top seed in the section tournament and dominated play against the Lakers not allowing more than two games in a set to the remaining DL singles lineup.

The three doubles matches had similar results with Lumberjacks breaking serve routinely in all three matches.

The Lakers dropped a close match to Crookston 4-3 in early September, but the Pirates’ strong play Tuesday led to a 6-1 Crookston victory.

“Besides three-doubles, we just couldn’t get momentum in any of the matches.”

Foltz and Sydney Fritz got the lone Laker victory cruising to a love and two win over Marie Sandman and Elise Tanquist.

Adrianna Brehm split the first two sets at four-doubles against Jade Lizahowski, but fell in the third set tiebreaker 10-8.

“Crookston’s coach, Mike Geffre, always changes his lineup and we tried to alter our lineup to be competitive in all of the matches.  We may have made a mistake by playing girls in spots in the lineup that they were not comfortable with.”  

The remaining five matches went to the Pirates in straight sets.
