Former Laker and M State Fergus Falls sophomore Wyatt Blomseth led the Spartans men’s golf team to a dual victory over the University of Minnesota Morris Monday, April 5 at Tipsinah Mounds golf course in Elbow Lake.
The Spartans shot a combined score of 294 to 329 by the Cougars in an early season-opener.
“We had planned to start spring practice today but got a call from Morris on Friday wondering if we would like to schedule a short notice dual,” Spartans head coach Jason Retzlaff said. “I’m glad we did as it was a beautiful day to play golf. Despite the lack of practice, I thought we played well and had a lot fun. We are thankful that the weather has allowed us to get out as early as I can remember. With the Region Championship moved from October to May, it will be important to get plenty of practice and competition in to prepare.”
Five Spartans carded scores in the 70s, led by Blomseth’s low round of 1-over, 71.
Brady Raph of UM-Morris was the medalist with an even round of 70.

The Spartans will compete next on Wednesday, April 14 in a dual competition against Concordia College in Moorhead. Another Laker alum, Ryan Paskey, is a junior on the Cobber golf team.
The Region XIII Championship will take place on May 12-13 at Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls. It was moved from the week of Oct. to May for reasons related to Covid-19.
