The new boardwalk for the long lake trail extension in Vergas was delivered at the end of January. It will connect with the existing path on Loon Park on Long Lake, according to a Facebook post by Lake Life Wknd .

The trail started back in 2008 when the first phase, from Main Street to Loon Park, was completed, according to a previous Tribune article.

"It was a safety trail that was intended to take people -- walkers, bikers, (people on) scooters -- off the main highway," Cheryl Hanson, a member of the Vergas trail development committee, said in that story.

The funds for the trail started with a donation when Roger Hanson, Cheryl's father, died in 2005. In 2017, Roger's twin brother Rodney died, and the Hanson family and Hanson Plumbing and Heating donated another $20,000 in his memory. That donation completed the $100,000 the trail committee needed to raise before they could begin the project design.

Three years later, and the 300-foot boardwalk has arrived in Vergas, according to a Facebook post by the city of Vergas . The post also said that installation was expected to begin the week of Feb. 10.
