Sam Boomgarden recorded a hat trick and the No. 19 Detroit Lakes boys hockey team won a third consecutive game in a 7-0 whitewashing of visiting Red Lake Falls Tuesday at Kent Freeman Arena in a Section 8A matchup.
The Perham combo of Joe Solberg and Ryan DeConcini scored within three minutes of each other midway through the first period for a 2-0 lead. Tanner Berby, another Perham product, assisted on Solberg’s goal. Boomgarden picked up an assist on DeConcini’s.
DeConcini returned the favor with Jon Richards on Boomgarden’s first goal a minute into the second period and scored again 57 seconds later.
Solberg added his second goal and the Lakers led 5-0 after two periods of play.
Boomgarden got the hat trick at 7:55 of the third and DeConcini picked up his second goal in the waning minutes.

Laker goalie MacKenzie Steele was rarely tested facing 15 shots and not a lot of attack zone pressure from the Eagles.
Detroit Lakes improves to 12-5-2 overall and 5-2 in section play.
Red Lake Falls falls to 10-9-1 and 3-6.
The Lakers travel to Wadena-Deer Creek (7-13) Thursday, Jan. 29 for a 7 p.m. faceoff. DL won the last meeting 9-1 in late December at home.
