Boys Hoops: Frazee opens conference play with home victory

The Frazee Hornets defeated Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 70-54 at home and picked up their first conference victory in Heart O' Lakes boys basketball action Tuesday night.

The Frazee Hornets defeated Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 70-54 at home and picked up their first conference victory in Heart O’ Lakes boys basketball action Tuesday night.

“I was very very pleased with our effort tonight,” Hornet Head Coach Brian Tangen said. “Our kids played very hard and we got huge contributions from our bench.”

The Hornets had a balanced attack led for the second straight game by Brady Bellefeuille. Bellefeuille had his second consecutive double-double scoring 20 points to go with 16 rebounds.  Matt Tangen had 12 points, five assists and five rebounds. Mathew Daggett scored eight points and pulled in six rebounds while Austin Torma had 11 points and six boards.  

Tangen noted Harley Ellingson, Parker Nudell, Gunnar Hilde made significant contributions in the game..

Nudell chipped in six points to go with six rebounds.

Chance willette also knocked down eight points.

“Our team defense was good but still needs to get better as we move through the season.”

Frazee let 38-23 at the half and D-G-F cut the lead to nine points before the Hornets sealed the game from the free throw line late.

Frazee was 29 for 43 from the free throw line while D-G-F shot 20-31. Ethan Edeen led the Rebels with 13 points and Kyle Rothcshadl added a dozen points.

The Hornets had the rebounding edge 43-28.

The Hornets shot 16-33 from the field and  were 3-12 from behind the arc. D-G-F was 13-29 and 3-17 from long range.

Frazee (2-0) plays at Mahnomen (1-0) Friday night and then back in Frazee next Tuesday for a game against Sebeka (1-2).

Putting a tally in the win column in the HOL is a big step for a Hornet team that was winless in the conference last year.
