The Detroit Lakes boys’ tennis team was a bit shorthanded in their season opener in the Thief River Falls triangular, as they lost to the Prowlers 6-1 and Crookston 4-3 Thursday.
The Lakers did win three singles matches against Crookston, as Caleb Howard, Chandler Hanks and Austin Nelson each were victorious.
Junior Alex Fondrick won his No. 1 singles match against Thief River Falls’ Hunter Blowers, before falling to Crookston’s Bobby Tiedman.
“We were missing a few key players and did well compared to last year,” said DL head coach Patrick Starbeck.
“We are hitting better than I could have imagined. I am very pleased with our play, and expect to get much better by the next time we meet these teams again.”
