Busker medalist at MGA Match Play
Shelby Busker carded a 2-over-par 74 to earn medalist honors during the qualifying round of the Minnesota Golf Association Women's Amateur Match Play Championship Tuesday, June 16 at The Wilds Golf Club in Prior Lake.
Busker had one birdie during the round on the par-4 fifth hole shooting even par on the front with a pair of bogeys on the backside.
A pair of former Lakers were one-two atop the leaderboard with Maddie Herzog the runner-up at +3.
Busker earned the No. 2 overall seed behind defending champ Grace Kellar and scored a first round victory in match play defeating Ana Schwarz of Marshall Golf Club handily 7&5.
Herzog was defeated in the round of 32 by Megan Furtney of Deer Run Golf Club 2&1.
In the round of 16, Busker lost to Megan Munneke of Tianna Country Club 3&2.
Play continues in the quarterfinal round highlighted by a big matchup between University of Missouri golfer and former Red Wing High School star Sophia Yoemans and Kathryn VanArragon, a 15-year-old Blaine standout.
VanArragon was the youngest Minnesota golfer to win the Class AAA MSHSL state championship as a seventh-grader in 2018 and the youngest to win the Minnesota Women’s State Amateur Championship shortly after turning 14, earning 2019 MGA Junior Girls’ Player of the Year honors.
