The Detroit Lakes Cross country teams got their first road meet under their belt on Monday at the Staples-Motley invite.
The Laker girls took home fourth place in an eight-team field at Vintage Golf Course in Staples. They were led by junior Julia Steffl, who took fifth-place overall with a time of 21:29. Behind her was freshman Isla Pender in 14th place (23:33.8).
Freshmen Sadie Johnson (24:42.8) and Karli Skarie (24:42.8) finished within less than a half of a second of each other in 25th and 26th place. Junior Kaitlyn Jorgenson (25:07.1) rounded out the Detroit Lakes top five in 31st place.
Senior Cole Webber led the Detroit Lakes boys to an eighth-place finish out of nine teams on Monday with his time of 20:03.5, which was good enough for 23rd place in the field. Sophomore Micah Barberg (21:55.2) took 32nd, with senior Casey Parks (23:11.4) not too far behind in 39th.
Junior Xander Jensen (23:21.4) and freshman Hunter Zehnaker (23:38) finished back-to-back in 43rd and 44th to give Detroit Lakes a team score of 181.
