The Detroit Lakes girls golf team bested the field at the Park Rapids Invitationals at Headwaters Golf Club on Monday, May 3, winning by 19 strokes.
Golfers competed in tough scoring conditions with northerly winds at 20+ miles per hour and cold temperatures.
The cold conditions lent an edge to local golfers and Anna Eckman of Park Rapids took advantage to grab medalist honors shooting an 8-over-par 80 to win by one stroke of Detroit Lakes’ Hanna Knoop and Fergus Falls’ Annika Jyrkas.
The top five Lakers all finished in the top 10.

McKenna Mallow placed fourth (82), McKenna Burhans was fifth (90) and Evan Westrum finished off the scoring foursome with a 91 in seventh place.
The Lakers combined for a winning score of 344, 19 better than second place Fergus Falls.
Nearly half of the field had incomplete scores not bringing at least four golfers. The host Panthers placed third with a 385, one stroke better than Moorhead. The Spuds and Lakers were the only Class AAA teams in the field. The remainder was a familiar group that DL dominated for decades in Class AA.
DL’s fifth golfer Laura Syltie finished fifth with a 94 and Cora Martin shot 104 in the sixth lineup position.

Headwaters is the host of this year's Section 8AAA championships. DL golfers got a first of two regular season plays in Park Rapids. They will return for a second meet Friday, May 14.

The Lakers’ team victory was the fifth in seven meets to start the season. Detroit Lakes competes next at Minnewaska Country Club Friday, May 7.
