Detroit Lakes holds off Fergus Falls for home track and field victories

DL girls win by 10 points; Laker boys edge Otters by a deuce.

Detroit Lakes and Fergus Falls were nearly even all day with the Lakers pulling out a pair of very close track and field victories over the Otters Tuesday, April 27 at Mollberg Field.

The Laker girls were 10-point winners 85-75, while the boys team slipped by the Otters 80-78.

The Laker boys and Fergus Falls split the four relay races, while DL picked up seven wins by individuals.

Devon Berg, Hunter Zempel, Ethan Carrier and Mason Carrier ran 1:39.62 to win the 4x200.

Mason Hamar, Casey Parks, Brayden Francis and Ezekial Blow won the 4x400 in 4:02.93.

Jacob Kalina won a close first heat to capture firsts place overall in the 100m dash in 11.86.

Ethan Carrier (23.87) and Zempel (24.47) finished one-two in the 200m dash.

DL had the top three 800m runners led by Brayden Francis (2:23.46) in first place, followed by Jackson Maasjo (2:30.12) and Ezekiel Blow (2:33.61).

Charles Kalina led a three-pack of DL hurdlers with a winning 20.63 in the 100m race. Alexander Fletcher was second (20.68) and Brady Wirtz third (21.5).

Brandton Marsh won the 300m hurdles in 50.94.

In jumps, Christian Solberg won the long jump with a leap of 18-09.75.

Clay Perkins picked up a win in the triple with a jump of 39-09.50. Brandton Marsh was the runner-up clearing 36-08.75.

The DL girls picked up three of four relay victories and four individual wins.

Jerzie Horner, Morgan Hausten, Ella Paulson and Anne Paulson ran 54.71 to win the 4x100.

Abby Larson, Ella Paulson, Anne Paulson and Sasha Sekundiak won the 4x200 in 1:52.21.

Ava Jones, Amaya LeCleir, Julia Steffl and Kaitlyn McConkey finished the 4x800 in a winning time of 10:55.93.

Larson was the 200m dash winner in 27.44.

LeCleir placed first in the 800m run in 2:43.16

Detroit Lakes completed a sweep of the top four 100m hurdles times led by Rylee Johnson in first place (18.27), followed by Jerzie Horner (18.8), Jade Adams-Tolbert (19.02) and Jordan Ehnert placing fourth in 20.01.

Anne Paulson (54.93), Rylee Johnson (55.53) and Alex Bettcher (56.26) nabbed the top three spots in the 300m hurdles. Paulson added a field victory in the triple jump measured at 31-11.75.

After back-to-back home meets, DL will compete next at Pequot Lakes Thursday, May 6.
