The Detroit Lakes jazz dance team finished one place higher than last year with a sixth place result at the Section 4AA championships in Sartell Saturday, Feb. 27.
The Lakers were awarded 18.5 rank points finishing behind state qualifiers Sartell, ROCORI and St. Cloud Cathedral, and Becker and Monticello.
The top three teams in both jazz and high kick advance to state.
Sartell has won the last four high kick state AA titles and was second by way of a tiebreaker in jazz last season.
ROCORI is also making a repeat state trip in both categories after seventh place state marks last year.

The Laker high kick team finished in 13th place.
Sartell swept both section events. St. Cloud Cathedral was a point better than ROCORI for second place in high kick.
The Class AA state dance championships will be held at Edina High School March 12-13. Jazz competitions will be held March 12, while high kick teams will compete on Saturday, the 13th.
