Incomplete lineups from opponents Barnesville and Park Rapids made for a pair of quick duals and big victories for No. 11AA Detroit Lakes on Senior Night at Ralph Anderson Gymnasium.

Detroit Lakes head coach Rob Ullyott praised his senior class for their leadership during the past three years of Laker wrestling success that culminated in last year’s third place state finish, a program best and the top mark by a Section 8AA team at state in the past decade.

Ullyott also postulated this year’s team has a lot of upside on where they can finish this year. His team has now won 16 of 18 duals.

DL opened the night in the first of the three matches with a 69-6 victory over Barnesville. The Trojans were open at seven weights.

Five Lakers recorded victories: Carsen Wold at 132 by fall in less than a minute; Cade Jackson at 138 in only 28 seconds; Blaine Henderson at 182 in a 4-2 decision over Brady Kroll; Henry Lee at 195 with a quick 30-second pin; Andreas Barnett finished the match with a 35-second fall.

Henderson improved to 18-0 this season and should be garnering attention from state rankings voters in the Feb. 21 polls to join teammates Brody Ullyott, Jackson and Barnett.

After Ullyott’s presentation, Park Rapids came out and won the opening three matches with a major decision and two falls to lead 16-0.

Nine forfeits in the next 11 matches made that moot.

The Panthers’ Eli Burton had the biggest match turnaround of the night at 120 pounds. He trailed Leroy LaCrosse 7-3, but was able to flip the match and score a pin in the last minute of the third period to a hardy ovation from the Park Rapids faithful.

Brody Ullyott defeated the Panthers Lucas Kritzeck by fall at a minute-22 in an efficient performance.

Lee wrestled a second time at 195 and got a big roar from his teammates by duplicating his earlier effort with a slam and pin of Tristan Hill in 28-seconds. The victories were the first for the DL sophomore this season.
