Despite playing their best game in the St. Cloud Holiday Tournament, the Detroit Lakes boys' hockey team couldn't nab a win over Mound-Westonka Thursday, losing 6-2, as the Lakers finished the week with a 1-2 mark.
The Lakers controlled 30 of the first 34 minutes of the game, but found themselves behind 3-1 going into the third period.
The trend continued into the third period, as the Lakers looked a little tired and made a few mistakes, and Mound capitalized.
The Lakers ended up losing 6-2.
Ethan Brekke and Andy Schupp put home the Laker goals and Blake Murphy was in net, stopping 28 shots in the loss.

After the tourney the Lakers are sitting at 7-3-0 for the season.
DL has outscored its opponents by a 49-38 margin in its 10 games, and will host Mid-State Conference opponent Wadena-Deer Creek (3-9-0) Thursday, starting at 7:30 p.m.
The Laker boys' and girls' hockey team will play a home doubleheader Saturday, with the DL girls hosting Alexandria at 3 p.m. and the Laker boys facing Willmar (4-5-0) starting at 5 p.m.
Laker JV team goes 1-2 in Holiday Tournament
The Lakers JV also won one game and lost two during the tourney.
The Lakers played a strong first game against Apollo, but couldn't figure out the Eagles' goalie and ended up dropping the game 4-1.
Jacob Fritz tallied the only Laker goal.
Brett Nephew played strong in the net, stopping 17 shots.

In game two, the Lakers played possibly their best game of the year by beating Sauk Rapids 3-2.
The Storm put up 24 shots on net, but Nephew played well, turning away 22 shots. Taylor Magnuson, Austin Starkey and Dylan Bremseth all tallied Laker goals in the game.
Bremseth put home the game winner midway through the third on a power play.
An early morning tilt against Mound-Westonka saw the Lakers start off quick on a Magnuson goal.
Mound answered twice in the period to take a lead into the locker room.
Mound put up three more goals in the game, before the Lakers scored in the third as Nick LeTourneau put the puck home on the power play.
Nephew faced 25 shots in the game stopping 20.
The Lakers JV squad now sits at 4-6-0 on the season.
