The Detroit Lakes wrestling team upped its dual record on the season to 9-2 after a convincing 43-27 win over visiting Norwood-Young America Friday.

The Lakers followed up that win with a solid fourth-place finish in the 15-team Thief River Falls Invite Saturday, racking up eight place winners.

"This past week we have really worked hard and have gotten better," said DL head coach Rob Ullyott. "We have a lot of mistakes to correct, but the kids are working hard and putting forth a great effort on the mat."

DL's lighter weights are definitely making a name for themselves, after taking top six places in six of the first seven divisions.

Gabe Foltz captured the 103-pound title with a 7-1 decision over Badger/Greenbush-Middle River's Ryan Bergeron in the championship bout.

Nate Francis (112) and Parker Jackson (135) each went 3-1 to capture bronze medals.

The Laker junior varsity placed fifth out of 17 teams in TRF, as Bronson Spies captured gold.

Other JV placers included Tyler Bellefeuille (second), Austin Soyring (third), Luke Eggebraaten (second), Ben Ortiz (third), Malcom Bradbury (fifth), Cameron Fritz (fourth) and Luke Marten (fourth).

The Lakers will travel south to Fergus Falls Thursday, with matches starting at 7:30 p.m.
