Unranked United North Central made a case for moving into the Class A state rankings later this week after sweeping two matches at the Detroit Lakes wrestling triangular Saturday defeating No. 3AA Detroit Lakes 36-31 and No. 12A Badger-Greenbush-Middle River 43-30 at Ralph Anderson Gymnasium.

The Lakers earned a split on the home mat with a 10-point victory over BGMR to start the day.

Detroit Lakes got a major decision from Jared Ohm at 106 and used a six-match streak from 126-160 pounds to open a 34-9 lead.

Tyson Ullyott and Carsen Wold started the stream with back-to-back pins, followed by decision victories from Bradly Swiers and Cade Jackson. Brody Ullyott and Garett Nelson had consecutive falls, Nelson’s coming at just 49 seconds of his match with Damien Tuura.

The Gators won four of the final five matches, but Blaine Henderson’s major decision over Caleb Vacura at 182 pounds was enough to keep the visitors at bay up 34-12 with three matches to go.

After Henderson’s 11-3 dual, Laker head coach Rob Ullyott paused the match to announce Henderson recently earning his 100th career victory for Detroit Lakes.

Detroit Lakes never led against UNC, falling behind quickly 18-0 on three straight falls to start the match.

UNC won five of the first six matches with only Tyson Ullyott getting on the board for the Lakers at 126 pounds. DL trailed 24-4 heading to 145.

Cade Jackson earned a tight 2-0 decision over Hank Tellers and Brody Ullyott got six points by way of forfeit at 152 to pull DL within 11 points down 24-13.

UNC’s Eion Ness and Dakota Meech pushed back with nine points in two matches for a 33-13 advantage with four bouts remaining.

Thad Schlauderaff and Henderson both recorded pins to get within striking distance down 33-25. Henderson got his match with Cooper Hasbargen over quickly in the opening minute.

The Lakers needed a decision or better at 220, but UNC’s Torrey Carlson put an end to that with a 7-1 decision over Jeffrey Moen nullifying any help from heavyweight Andreas Barnett.

Barnett had DL’s fastest pin of the day at 40 seconds over Marcus Peterson.

The No. 3AA Lakers are 8-2 after 10 duals and compete at home again Thursday, Feb. 4 against Frazee and Ottertail Central.
