WARROAD - The Frazee Hornets (2-0) blasted Warroad 42-8 behind seven defensive takeaways and a huge first half Friday night at rainy Warroad in the Heart O’ Lakes Classic Conference opening game for both clubs.
Warroad (0-2) opened the game recovering a gadget onside kick, but Frazee forced a fumble to set up an opening 60-yard touchdown drive and the Hornet onslaught was underway early.
Frazee scored 20 points in the first quarter, 22 in the second to go up 42-0 at the half.
“We came out firing again,” Head Coach Jim Rader said.
The Hornet defense collected three interceptions and four fumble recoveries to keep the Warriors’ offense in check.

Frazee pulled their starters after halftime up 42 points.
“Our kids played great team football against a Warroad team that had a lot of beef on the line of scrimmage. It was truly a total team effort and I am proud of my players and coaches for the work they put in preparing for the game. Our schedule really does not provide us with any easy opponents, so we need to maintain our focus on being ‘all -in’ in order to reach our goals,” Rader said.
The game was postponed 40 minutes due to lightning.
Electricity in the air, in the huddle and in the parking lot added some interesting tidbits to the Hornet blowout nearly four hours from home.
The team bus had an electrical malfunction causing the headlights to stop working, so the driver and Chuck Wake spent about an hour in the parking lot of Warroad High School working on repairs while talking to the bus garage.
The Frazee boosters and parents went to a local grocery store to prepare sandwiches for the players and coaches after the game during the bus repair.
“Their loyalty and support, in general, are second to none.”
The Hornets were also commended for playing with class despite winning in a cakewalk.
“As a coach it is always rewarding to see a team and the staff having each other's back with their work, but my proudest moment of the night came when the officials approached me after the game and complimented me on our players tremendous character and sportsmanship. We had a veteran crew that has done countless high school and college games over the years and they said our players were the classiest they have seen in years...one of the best ever.”
Frazee’s football season is off to a real positive start and the Hornets hit the road again in conference action next Friday traveling to Staples-Motley (0-2).
