Pelican Rapids’ senior running back, Ryan Bruggeman had quite the workout in the Vikings’ intense 28-22 Heart O’Lakes Conference victory Friday, after pacing his team with 310 rushing yards on just 11 carries.

Of his 11 attempts, four went for lengthy touchdown runs of 76, 36, 83 and 82 yards.

Pelican Rapids also took advantage of DGF turnovers and some big plays on offense to pick up their first win of the season.

The first Rebel turnover of the game came on the second play of the game, when Gauge Lee stepped in front of a DGF pass for an interception.

On the second Pelican Rapids play from scrimmage, Bruggeman busted out for 76 yards and his first touchdown of the game.

Two plays into the next DGF drive, Bruggeman recovered a fumble.

On the third play of this possession, Bruggeman scored on a 36-yard run.

The next DGF possession also ended in a fumble. Once again it was Bruggeman doing the work, as he went the distance for an 83-yard touchdown run and a 21-0 Viking lead.

On the first play of the second half, Bruggeman found the end zone one more time with an 82-yard run.

After that touchdown the Vikings held on just good enough to get the win.

With Pelican Rapids holding onto the six-point lead, the Rebels were driving with time running out.  With 30 seconds left in the game, a Rebel fumble at the goal line was recovered by Robert Mazaragieos in the end zone.
