Detroit Lakes senior quarterback Max Gunderson will not be going too far from home for college.

Gunderson announced on Tuesday night, Dec. 4, he has committed to the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks football program.

The senior quarterback helped the Lakers to a 9-1 record and a trip to the Section 8AAAA championship game. Gunderson passed for 719 yards and nine touchdowns and rushed for 279 yards and four more scores.

He has family ties to the Fighting Hawks program. His uncle, Erik, played there from 1995-98.
