The Mahnomen-Waubun Thunderbirds took care of business on Friday night against Red Lake County Central in a 36-0 victory.

Five different Thunderbirds found the end zone starting with Dennis Ashley from 11-yards out in the first quarter. Beau Hoban made it 16-0 with a four-yard touchdown run before Will Starkey broke off a 14-yard score.

Curtis Bellefuille capped off an impressive first half with a 38-yard touchdown run. Joe Slette put the finishing touches on Mahnomen-Waubun’s shutout with a nine-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter.

The Thunderbirds allowed just 55 yards of total offense to Red Lake County Central. The Thunderbirds gained 280 yards, with 264 of them coming on the ground. Starkey, Ashley and Curtis Mehr all had over 50 yards rushing on the night.

Mike Weaver led the Mahnomen-Waubun defense with four tackles, but Rolando Ellis had an impact in the turnover game. He picked off two passes in the victory.

The Thunderbirds are 5-1 this season and will host Wadena-Deer Creek (4-2) on Friday.
