Frazee second at Unruh wrestling tournament

The Frazee wrestling team placed second to West Fargo and had four individual champions at the Dan Unruh tournament in Wahpeton Dec. 5-6.

The Packers accumulated 264.5 team points to 242.5 for Frazee. Brookings, S.D. was third with 163.5.

Tanner Schermerhorn won the 106-pound championship; Calvin Streeper won the 160 title; Jonah Lange took the 182 championship and heavyweight Garrett Malstom won all four of his matches.

Schermerhorn defeated West Fargo’s Justin Harms by major decision 13-2 in the finals.

Riley Kitchenmaster placed fourth at 106 in a close 3-1 loss to Chase Brenner of Barnesville.

At 160, Streeper advanced to the final with a pin of Travis Miranowski of Breckenrdige before winning by default over Austin Beaty (Unattached) in the finals.

Lange completed his string of four wins defeating Soren McDaniel of Lisbon by decision 5-2 at 182 pounds. Lange had a pair of pins in the first two rounds.

After receiving a first round bye, Malstrom pinned fellow heavyweights Brady Terrill (1:48) and Fergus Falls’ Andrew Tysdal (5:02) before winning the championship match over West Fargo’s Zach Willis by fall at 1:12.

The Hornets had a trio of runners-up in Byron Byer at 132 pounds, Grant Jepson at 138, and Austin Skillings at 145.

Kayde Bartels of Brookings defeated Byer 4-0 in the finals.

Crookston’s Cody Weiland defeated Jepson in the finals by major decision 9-0.

West Fargo’s Jordan Shearer beat Skillings 7-3 in the title match.

All three wrestlers were 3-1 in the tournament.

Tanner Reetz placed third at 120 pounds. Ethan Byer finished in third place at 126.

Tanner Bachmann (170) and Tanner Tappe (220) added fifth place finishes for the Hornets.
