Girls Hockey: Lakers finish conference season undefeated

Hailey Sonstegard's hat trick was all the scoring Detroit Lakes needed to finish up Mid-State Conference play undefeated at 6-0 with a 3-1 victory over Northern Lakes Tuesday in Pequot Lakes.

The Lightning struck early for a 1-0 lead three minutes into the game on an even strength goal by Carly Fyle.

Jamie Bollig assisted on Sonstegard’s first at 8:41 sending the game to the first intermission tied at one.

Sonstegard’s game-winner was shorthanded and unassisted at 10:09 of the second period and she scored the insurance goal at 14:51 on assists by Samantha Benson and Savanna Nolan.

Veronica Badurek stopped 13 of 14 shots. The Lakers put 19 shots on Lightning goalie Madison Galligan.

Sonstegard had the game-winner in DL’s home 4-2 victory over Northern Lakes December 23.

Detroit Lakes is 16-6-1 overall. The Lightning fall to 6-17.

The Lakers will host Thief River Falls (19-1-3) in DL’s final regular season home game Thursday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. The Prowlers defeated East Grand Forks 5-2 Tuesday night.
