Detroit Lakes avenged an early season loss to the Panthers in a 78-50 blowout at Park Rapids Tuesday night in Mid-State Conference girls’ basketball.
“Super team effort,” Laker head coach Mike Hoganson said.
The Panthers came into the game 8-3 and pulled off a three-point victory frustrating the Lakers at home in mid-December.
DL is currently tied with Staples-Motley at 2-1 in the Mid-State, a game back of 3-0 Pequot Lakes. Park Rapids has played the most conference games at 3-3 in fourth place.
Kyley Foster led all scorers with 22 points.

“Kyley really stepped up in the first half leading the offense and playing super defense.”
Annie Mettert, Abby Schramel and Halle Jordan were counted upon to play important minutes in the first half due to Laker foul trouble.
DL led by five at halftime 35-30.
“In the second half, our posts got rolling.”
Shay Nielsen and Grace Swenson took over inside. The duo combined for 27 points, 18 for Nielsen, nine for Swenson.
“I was also very pleased with the play of Kyra Vagle,” Hoganson said. “She played so well scoring 13 points and making some really nice passes.”
Katie Klein and Megan Grimes led the Panthers scoring 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Detroit Lakes improves to 7-4 overall. Park Rapids falls to 8-4. The Lakers have their first of two meetings with 10-1 Staples-Motley Thursday, Jan. 15 in Staples. The Cardinals come into the game on a nine-game winning streak. DL is 3-2 in their past five games.

The 78 points scored is a season high for the Lakers through 11 games. Their prior mark was 74 in a 34-point win at Bemidji Dec. 23.
