All three past champs alive in Supers quarterfinals

The three career winners of the Pine to Palm Super Seniors division lead the quarterfinals field into Friday’s morning’s duels.

Last year’s champion Doug Gillam and the first Supers’ champion Paul Krueger will square off in the opening match at 8:44 a.m., Friday, Aug. 10.


Gillam handed No. 16 Joe Sauer a 3&2 defeat. No. 8 Krueger took out No. 9 Ronald Vincelli 4&2.

Six-time champion Chuck Renner and No. 13 Dan Elton renew last year’s quarterfinal match that Renner won 5&4. Renner advanced with a 5&3 victory over No. 12 John Hagge. Elton defeated No. 4 Bob Jamison 4&2 in the only victory from golfers in the bottom half of the field.


Co-medalist and No. 2 seed Doug Taylor finished quickly in a 5&4 win against N0. 15 Bob Theriault.

Taylor plays No. 7 David Andrisen, who won 3&2 over No. 10 Tim Rubis.

The final pairing features No. 3 Don Bradford, the other co-medalist, and No. 6 Michael Howell.

Bradford needed extra holes for a 1-up victory over No. 14 Scott Peters.

Howell defeated No. 11 Doug Gillund 6&5 to advance.

Gillam and Krueger start Friday’s play with the past champions rematch at 8:44 a.m. on the first tee.
