Busker, Wildcats open golf season
After a strong start on day one at the College of Saint Benedict (CSB) Invite shooting a team score of 337, the St. Catherine University Wildcat golfers were able to shave 14 strokes off in day two for a team score of 323. After 36 holes, the Wildcats finished the tournament in fifth with a team score of 660. The CSB Invite was a two-day event held at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course in Sartell, Minn.
Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) rivals the Carleton College Knights came in first in the early fall tournament. Behind the Knights was Gustavus Adolphus College in second, College of Saint Benedict and Bethel University tied for third. Other conference opponents competing in the two day event were St. Olaf College finishing in eighth, Macalester College in ninth, University of St. Thomas in tenth, Concordia College in eleventh, and Augsburg and Saint Mary's finishing up in 12tj and 13th respectively.
First-year Salt Lake City, Utah native, Kate Taylor again led the way for the Wildcats shooting 79 on day two for a 36 hole total of 161. Trailing Taylor in nearly the same order as day one's finish was senior Sydney Busker of Detroit Lakes (83-81-164), sophomore Olivia Matzke, sophomore Jordan Amelon, and first-year Sydney Brandt.
The Wildcats travel to the hometown of senior Sydney Busker next weekend to compete in the Concordia College Invite at Wildflower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes, Minn.
