DL boys golf season awards

The Detroit Lakes boys golf season awards were recently announced.

Junior Hunter Burnside was named the most valuable player of the team. He held the low scoring average, led in greens in regulation, putting average per hole with sophomore teammate Lukas Justesen, earned the team’s Ironman award, was all-conference, the Section 8AA runner-up and all-state with Justesen.

Burnside placed eighth at state reaching the individual podium for the second place Lakers in his third straight state appearance.

In that span, the Lakers have placed second the past two seasons and finished third in 2017. 

Junior Drew Schwan was DL’s most improved player. Schwan battled for a spot in the lineup early in the season and end the year contributing to the section title and state run.

Seventh-grader Nick Tobkin earned rookie of the year honors.

Hall of Fame head coach Bob Gorden's Lakers will return four players from this year's state team. Burnside and Justesen have five years of combined state experience. Schwan and Jake Green made their state debuts this year. Departing are senior Jack Schramel and junior exchange student Daniel Rozsa, along with seniors Jackson Carlblom, Tyler Burnside and Logan Burhans.
