A pair of former Lakers were on opposite sides of a college golf dual between M State Fergus Falls and Concordia College at Moorhead Country Club Wednesday, April 21.
Cobber junior Ryan Paskey got the better of M State freshman Hunter Burnside by two strokes in the battle of DLHS alums.
Paskey shot a 6-over-par 78 to tie for fourth place overall. Burnside was the top M-State golfer shooting an 80 (+8) to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place.
The Spartans were without All-American and former Laker standout Wyatt Blomseth due to illness.
M State shot 328 to place third behind both Cobber teams shooting 310 and 316, respectively.
“We didn’t shoot a great team score but I thought we weren’t too far off from playing some good golf,” M State head coach Jason Retzlaff said. “We had some stretches of quality play but Moorhead CC is a difficult course and tricky to navigate on first sight. I think the guys are close to playing well and we look forward to keep improving this Spring.”
Concordia's Justin Lamp was the medalist with a 73, He aced the par 3, ninth hole to highlight his victory.
Concordia will compete in its first multi-team invitational of the year when they participate in the St. John's Spring Invitational on Apr. 24-25 at Blackberry Ridge GC in Sartell and Monticello Country Club.
The Spartans will compete next on Monday, April 26 with a home event at Pebble Lake Golf Course. Tee times begin at 10am.
