Junior McKenna Mallow shot an 85 to lead Detroit Lakes to a 16-stroke victory at the Moorhead girls golf Invitational Thursday, April 22, at the Moorhead Country Club.

The Lakers defeated Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Staples-Motley in the four-team varsity field.

Detroit Lakes remains undefeated on the season despite playing in less than ideal weather conditions.

"We are looking forward to not looking like we are going ice fishing for practices starting next week,” head coach Dustin Martin said.

The next three scoring Lakers, seniors Evan Westrum, McKenna Burhans and freshman Laura Syltie, all carded a score of 90 for DL’s total of 355. Fergus Falls shot 371 to place second. Moorhead was third with a 384; Staples-Motley finished with a score of 390.

Detroit Lakes’ seventh-grader Tatum Gatheridge was a stroke back of the Lakers’ scoring foursome with a 91. Junior Cora Martin shot 100 in her first varsity meet of the year.

Fergus Falls Ella Soydara was the meet medalist with a winning score of 83, two strokes better than Mallow in sole possession of second place.

The Laker JV placed second (435) to Moorhead (409). Junior Luisa Walz had the low Laker round with a 107, tying for fourth place overall.

Detroit Lakes is back in action Monday, April 26 at Cragun’s in Brainerd.
