Guler leads Viking girls to 8AA quarterfinals from long range

No. 2 Pelican Rapids defeated No. 7 Barnesville for the third time this season 50-39 Thursday, Feb. 27 in the Section 8AA girls basketball round of 16 at Pelican Rapids high school.

The Vikings improved to 26-0 tying a program record for most wins in a season set in 2019 in a 26-2 campaign.

Pelican Rapids got six three-point baskets from Maddie Guler and a game-high 22 points from the general on the floor. Guler typically does far more than score for the Vikings but threw down Thursday night.

Barnesville kept pace with Pelican in the first half only trailing by six points at halftime 20-14.

Lauren Halverson was the lone Trojan in double figures with 13 points.

The Vikings leading duo in terms of scoring, Greta Tollefson and Anna Stephenson, chipped in with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

The South No. 2-seeded Vikings have another rematch next taking on the North No. 3 Crookston Pirates (21-6) Saturday, Feb. 29 at 2:45 p.m., at Concordia College's Memorial Auditorium in Moorhead.

The Vikings and Pirates met on a neutral court in Moorhead on February 1 and duked it out in a low-scoring defensive duel. Pelican Rapids won 32-27.
