The Detroit Lakes girls hockey team won for the second game in a row defeating Park Rapids 2-1 Tuesday night on the road to even their mark at 1-1 in the Mid-State Conference.

“It is good to see these wins early,” said Laker head coach Gretchen Norby. “It seems like their confidence continues to grow and we are improving on those little things that will win hockey games for us.”

The Lakers outshot the Panthers by a huge margin of 51-14.

Senior defenseman Payton Carlblom scored unassisted with 6:41 left in the first period and Abby King netted the game-winner on an assist from Emma Coley with 6:52 left in the second period.

The Lakers avenged a 6-0 loss in the opening round of the section playoffs last year on the same rink.

DL returns home to face Sartell/Sauk Rapids (2-2-1) Thursday, Nov. 30 at 7:15 p.m before a week off and a return to Mid-State action against Prairie Centre (2-2) Thursday, Dec. 7. The stop is the fourth in a stretch of five games in nine days for the Blue Devils.

After dropping four of the first five games, DL has won two of three to improve to 3-5 overall.
