Davies doubles up Laker girls

The Laker girls hockey team responded from a two-goal deficit to tie the game in the third period but Lauren Hanson scored the game-winner as Fargo Davies escaped Kent Freeman Arena with 4-2 victory Tuesday night.

Davies came out strong and controlled tempo and held the attack zone for much of a scoreless first period. Laker goalie Kyndra McDougall made nine saves to keep the zero on the board and the Lakers responded with seven shots of their own on Davies netminder Sydney Peterson.

Kylie Schafer and Josie Froslie put the Eagles up 2-0 scoring at the three and seven-minute mark of the second period. Shots were down with Davies holding a slim 6-5 advantage in the second.

Anna Payne setup Madyson Melgard on the Laker power play at the 12-minute mark to cut the lead in half.

Emma Coley scored four minutes into the third period at even strength on assists by Abagail King and Payton Carlblom to knot the score 2-2.

Hanson tallied the game-winner at 14:37 and Kaia Johnson buried an unassisted goal with just more than a minute to play for the 4-2 final.

Total shots were 26-17 Davies. Johnson had the lone multi-point night with a goal and an assist for the visitors.

Davies has won four of the last five games to improve to 6-4. The victory snapped a two-game winning streak for the Lakers (6-9).

DL has a lengthy break over the holidays returning to Mid-State Conference action Tuesday, Jan. 2 against Northern Lakes (3-5). The Lakers will look to avenge a 3-2 loss to the Lightning in Pequot Lakes in late November.
