Detroit Lakes bantam standout Jens Richards was named to the Section 8, 16’s AA/A CCM High Performance hockey team.

Players from both Class A and AA schools in Section 8 competed in tryouts at Bemidji last weekend with 18 skaters and two goalies selected.

Fellow DL Bantam A Braeden Wimmer also participated. Wimmer competed despite suffering a knee injury during the event. Qualifying spots were at a premium with players already on the National roster in attendance, as well.

The Section teams compete in three games against the top players from other Sections at their age level in the Spring Festival at Plymouth Ice Center in Plymouth, MN.

The top 54 players at each age level from the Spring Festival will be selected to compete at the CCM High Performance Final 54 Festival in Plymouth.

The Spring Festival and Final 54 provide an excellent opportunity for our players to be seen by junior, college and NHL scouts.  In addition, players have the opportunity to be evaluated for potential participation in national camps.

The last Detroit Lakes hockey player to earn a spot in the Final 54 was Jens’ brother Jon Richards, who just completed his first season with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
