The No. 7 Thief River Falls Prowlers handed Detroit Lakes a third consecutive loss defeating the Lakers 6-2 in a Section 8A girls hockey game Saturday, Dec. 8 at Kent Freeman Arena.

The Prowlers built a 6-0 lead after two periods of play.

Hannah Magnusson scored 55 seconds into the game at even strength and Khloe Lund added a power play goal at the seven-minute mark for a 2-0 lead they held to intermission.

Shelby Brieland tallied back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart early in the second period for a 4-0 lead. Ava Sturgeon added a power play goal and Dakota Klosterman scored unassisted in the final minute to go up by six goals.

The Lakers Abagail King and Payton Carlblom scored in the final period of play. King’s goal came at even strength assisted by Emma Coley and Sydney Brininger. Carlblom scored unassisted on the power play.

Faith Porter stopped 25 of 27 DL shots to earn the victory in net. Leah Honer made 30 saves for the Lakers.

Thief River Falls improved to 9-2 and are undefeated in four section games.

The Lakers dropped to 1-7 overall and face Park Rapids on the road Tuesday, Dec. 11. DL’s only win of the season came at home against the Panthers (0-9) by a score of 4-0 on Nov. 27.
