Detroit Lakes is on its longest win streak of the season at four games after a 4-1 boys hockey victory over Prairie Centre Area Thursday night at Kent Freeman Arena.

The Lakers had a wide margin in shots on goal 50-14 but were in a one-goal affair after three tallies between the teams in the first period.

Leading scorer Alex Bren got DL on the board in the opening minute on assists by Drew Schwan and Jordan Fields.

Dominic Ritter answered for the North Stars at the 3:30 mark to tie the game.

Bren had the primary assist and Spencer Bergman the secondary on Jake Green’s game-winning goal at 16:53. It was Green’s third goal of the season.

DL put 20 shots on Stars goalie Isaiah DeFoe in the opening 17 minutes while Blake Itzen saw only three.

Jackson Fields scored an insurance goal from the top of the left circle assisted by Hunter Burnside early in the second period. Fields leads the Lakers with 11 goals.

Braeden Wimmer polished off the victory with his fifth goal of the season - an unassisted shorty in the final minute of regulation.

Itzen (3-2) was perfect in the final two periods stopping 11 shots in the second and four in the third to earn his third victory of the season. All nine Laker wins this season are split evenly between the three goalies, including Jack Hines (3-5-2) and Elijah Blow (3-1).

PCA’s record drops to 5-12-1 overall.

Detroit Lakes is over .500 for the first time since Dec. 10 at 9-8-2 heading into a game with big section implications at Kittson Central Saturday, Jan. 25 at 3 p.m in Hallock.

After a strong start, the Bearcats (11-5) have lost four of the last five games including a 10-1 blowout defeat at the hands of the Green Wave in East Grand Forks Thursday night.
