Detroit Lakes used a four-goal first period and tallies from five different skaters to pick up the first victory of the season 5-0 at International Falls in non-conference girls hockey Friday, Jan. 22 at Bronco Arena.

Junior Adisyn Strand opened the scoring in the first minute of play scoring at 56-seconds on a shot from the blue line.

Junior Madison Olson assisted on the goal and scored DL’s second at 5:14 of the period on assists from junior Emma Coley and sophomore Ella Hess.

Strand and Coley set up junior Hadlee Justesen with the third Laker goal less than two minutes later.

Eighth-grader Kaydence Thorsteinson capped the first period with a goal midway through the period on helpers from Coley and Hess.

Hess had the final goal late in the second period on Coley’s fourth assist of the game.

Hess had a three-point night (1G, 2A). Olson and Strand each had a goal and an assist.

The Lakers killed off six Bronco power plays in the game.

All five DL goals came at even strength.

Senior goalie Leah Honer stopped all 17 shots she faced to record her first shutout of the season.

DL improved to 1-1 on the season and will finish a three-game road trip to start the year Thursday, Jan. 28 at East Grand Forks (1-2).
