The Frazee boys basketball team defeated host Park Rapids Area 62-52 in the opening round of the Park Rapids Area holiday tournament Monday.
Frazee and the Park Rapids were tied at 27 at halftime, but Frazee separated by a 10-point margin in the second half.
Brady Bellefeuille led Frazee's offense, shooting 11-for-16 (69 percent) from the field scoring a game-high 24 points
Matt Tangen notched two three-pointers and scored 19 points. Also helping the effort for Hornets were: Mathew Daggett (8 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal), Austin Torma (7 points, 9 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block) and Harley Ellingson (4 points, 1 rebound, 2 steals).
Frazee finished the game with 30 rebounds (nine offensive/21 defensive), five blocks and six steals.

The Hornets were without both Parker Nudell and Gunnar Hilde playing with a thin rotation as the team battles the flu bug.
“Harley Ellingson stepped up and did a fantastic job defensively and also chipped in a nice floor game and took care of the ball very well,” Hornet head coach Brian Tangen said. “Matt Barker did a nice job in the paint getting some key rebounds.”
Frazee was 8-10 from the line while Park Rapids made 12 of 19 attempts.
Jordan McCollum led the Panthers with 20 points.
Frazee improves to 4-5 overall and faces Cass Lake-Bena (6-2) Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. for the championship at Park Rapids Area high school. Cass Lake-Bena defeated Rosholt 87-68 to advance.
The Frazee JV team also notched a win over Park Rapids and will take on Cass Lake-Bena in the JV Championship at 1:30 p.m. today.
