Bemidji took advantage of 10 Detroit Lakes errors and scored 20 runs on 13 hits, sweeping the Lakers 11-3 and 9-2 in Section 8AAA baseball at Bemidji State University Tuesday, May 23.

Bemidji opened Tuesday’s doubleheader with nine runs in the first two innings using three DL errors to inflict damage.

DL got hits in the game from Jackson Haire, Ethan Schweigart, Mason Blank and Cooper Hermanson. Haire, Sully Wood and Schweigart scored the Lakers’ three runs.

Blake Itzen took the pitching loss.

In game two, Lumberjack junior Johnny Melhus made his varsity debut on the mound and, apart from balking in a run in the first inning, was nearly perfect through 5 1/3 innings of work. He finished with one run allowed on two hits and one walk to go with nine strikeouts.

In large part due to seven Detroit Lakes errors in the game, the Jacks scored three runs in the first, one in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth for the 9-2 win.

Blank and Schweigart had the lone DL hits. Haire took the loss.

DL (6-13) wraps up the regular season at Thief River Falls Thursday, May 24.
