Detroit Lakes senior Lukas Justesen finished his career with a 36th place finish at the Minnesota Class AA state boys golf tournament at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan Wednesday, June 16.
Pace of play was slow during day two of the championships with players lagged at tee boxes until the completion of the girl’s tournament when the course opened up.
Multiple players and spectators talked about the lack of rhythm at Ridges during the opening nine holes.

Justesen had a three-hole stretch on both sides of the course he played at even par, but bogeys appeared far more on the scorecard against one birdie at the par 5 18th hole to produce a +10 round of 82.
Justesen finished in a six-way tie for 36th in the top half of the field of 88 golfers.
Perham junior Marcus Belka struggled as well. He and Justesen started the day tied, but Belka finished with a day two score of 87 to drop to a tie for 57th.
The race for medalist honors was a battle won by first round leader Sam Baker of Cloquet. Baker held off under par charges from Beck Erholtz of Staples and New London-Spicer’s Peyton Coahran to win by one stroke personally and lead the Lumberjacks to the team title.

Top 10 battle at Bunker Hills
Scores were low with the entire top 10 shooting under par for the day and the tournament at Bunker Hills Wednesday.
First round co-leader Nate Stevens of Northfield (134) was a two-stroke winner carding a 6-under, 66 to win by two over Minnetonka’s Ian Meyer.

Meyer was the low man of the day at -7 (65).
Jack Wetzel of Edina shared the day one lead with Stevens but a 77 dropped him all the way back to 11th place.
Moorhead’s Ian Simonich wrapped up his high school career for the Spuds with a 1-under round of 71 to share seventh place overall.
Maple Grove was 5-under par as a team (283) to defeat Edina by 19 strokes.
