Shane Kern of Lakes Area Boxing took a step in the Regional Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament Feb. 19, in Wadena.
Kern went to battle against Wadena's Justin Isaacson as both fighters went head-to-head.
But in the end, it was Kern's conditioning and experience which beat beat out Isaacson on all scorecards.
Kern will face Tanner Hultin from Fergus Falls in an 165-pound Regional elimination bout.
The winner will advance to the semifinals March 24.

"Shane is ready to defend his regional championship from last year," said LAB head trainer Chris Holt. "This is the first step. He is looking good."
The fights will take place at the Wadena Armory 7:30 p.m. He is the one fighter from Detroit Lakes representing LAB.
"Shane has been putting extra work in the gym to get things accomplished," Holt said. "He is on a mission, he does not just want to beat opponents he wants to punish opponents."
This fight is part of a double main event Shane Kern (LAB) versus Tanner Hultin (Fergus Falls Boxing Club), TJ Stewart (Wadena Boxing Club) versus Tom Fanjoy (Golden Lakes Boxing) Brainerd.
