The Frazee Lady Hornet basketball team opened their season Monday night when they hosted the Mahnomen Indians.

The veteran Frazee team took advantage of a young Mahnomen team as they cruised to a 62-8 victory.

The Lady Hornets opened up a 42-6 lead at halftime and continued the strong defensive effort in the second half by allowing only two points.

Josi Tappe led Frazee on a night that saw 10 different players score. Tappe had 15 points, eight steals, six assists and five rebounds. Hailee Oswald hit four 3-pointers for her 12 points and Kennady Barlund chipped in with 10 points. Whitney Janu added six points and a team high six rebounds.

“We have a lot of varsity experience and Mahnomen does not and we were able to exploit that tonight,” head coach Dave Conzemius said. “We have been working hard on our defense in practice and we are taking steps in the right direction. We will continue to work hard and get better as the season progresses.”
