The nasty weather over the course of last weekend put a bit of a wrench in the Detroit Lakes boys' swimming and diving team after missing several practices, but the Lakers still were able to come within four points of a victory in Bemidji on Tuesday.
DL diver Jon Melgaard highlighted the meet by breaking the Lumberjack pool record with his 271-point routine, while three other Lakers won their events in the 95-91 team loss.
Brandon Olson took top honors in the 200 individual medley, while Quillan Oak won the 500 freestyle and Cody Johnson took the 100 breaststroke.
"Missing practice due to the weather over the past three days, definitely showed its effects on our team," said DL head coach Rian Heimark. "The boys swam hard, but the times just were not there."
The Lakers will close out their home schedule Thursday when they host Perham for a 6 p.m. start inside the BTD Aquatics Center.
