Laker girls grab Mid-State lead at Pequot Lakes

The Lakers continued their strong second half play building on an eight point lead at half (29-21) and were hot from the field shooting 46 percent (23-50) and 45 percent from long range making five of 11 three-point attempts.

Shay Nielsen score 14 points; Grace swenson added eight, Halle Jordan and Kyra Vagle both scored six points.

The Laker defense made shooting difficult for the Patriots who made only 16 of 67 shot attemps (24 percent), going 0-8 from behind the arc.

Caitie Ryan tallied 18 points and Haley Wiebolt contributed 11 in a losing effort.

Pequot Lakes (10-5) came into the game at 3-0 in the Mid-State, the Lakers at 4-1. The victory gives DL a full game lead with three conference games remaining.

Both teams continue conference play next Tuesday, Jan. 27. Pequot Lakes hosts Park Rapids (9-5, 3-3). DL hosts Wadena-Deer Creek (0-13, 0-6).

The following Thursday, DL (11-4, 5-1) will try to avenge a 71-65 home loss to Thief River Falls in the Prowler gym before returning to town for seven straight home games.
