BEMIDJI - Divers for the Detroit Lakes swimming team got the Lakers off to a strong start taking four of the top six finishes en route to a third place team finish out of nine squads at the Bemidji Swimming and Diving Invitational Saturday. Emma Disse (231.2), Lexy Yliniemi (218.15), Thia Olds (202.1) and Jackson Hegg (196.3) placed third through sixth to combine for 58 of the Lakers 313.5 points after the diving competition. The A and B 200 medley relay teams added 40 team points with a fourth place finish for Grace Livermore, Clara Livermore, McKenna Krengel and Syg Gulon and the 12th place B team of Josie Retz, Addisyn Young, Jocelyn Skoda and Berit Ramstad-Skoyles. Grace Livermore placed third in the 200-IM scoring 16 points in a time of 2:27.99. Clara Livermore and McKenna Krengel added nine and six points for ninth and 11th place marks.
Syd Gulon put up 17 points in a strong runner-up finish in the 50-free, finishing behind only Alexis Doherty of Grand Forks by .26 seconds. Doherty swam 26.13 to Gulon's 26.29. Ella Henderson of DL was seventh in 27.97, good for a dozen team points. Gulon again showed her ability to be quick and swim with stamina by placing second in the 500-freestyle in a time of 5:41.17. Bemidji's Libby McRae won the face in 5:38.32. The runner-up mark totaled 34 points for Culon in the short and long freestyle races. Grace Livermore finished third in the 100-backstroke and Clara Livermore was fourth in the 100-breastroke for a combined total of 31 more points for the team. Emma Disse (231.2), Lexy Yliniemi (218.15), Thia Olds (202.1) and Jackson Hegg (196.3) placed third through sixth to combine for 58 of the Lakers 313.5 points after the diving competition. The A and B 200 medley relay teams added 40 team points with a fourth place finish for Grace Livermore, Clara Livermore, McKenna Krengel and Syg Gulon and the 12th place B team of Josie Retz, Addisyn Young, Jocelyn Skoda and Berit Ramstad-Skoyles. Grace Livermore placed third in the 200-IM scoring 16 points in a time of 2:27.99. Clara Livermore and McKenna Krengel added nine and six points for ninth and 11th place marks.[[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"1074157","attributes":{"alt":"","class":"media-image","height":"269","typeof":"foaf:Image","width":"480"}}]] Syd Gulon put up 17 points in a strong runner-up finish in the 50-free, finishing behind only Alexis Doherty of Grand Forks by .26 seconds. Doherty swam 26.13 to Gulon's 26.29. Ella Henderson of DL was seventh in 27.97, good for a dozen team points. Gulon again showed her ability to be quick and swim with stamina by placing second in the 500-freestyle in a time of 5:41.17. Bemidji's Libby McRae won the face in 5:38.32. The runner-up mark totaled 34 points for Culon in the short and long freestyle races. Grace Livermore finished third in the 100-backstroke and Clara Livermore was fourth in the 100-breastroke for a combined total of 31 more points for the team. Jocelyn Skoda had DL's top 100-butterfly time swimming 1:21.35 for ninth place and nine points.
Relay points add up quickly and DL received 26 for a sixth place finish by the foursome of Skoda, Berit Ramstad-Skoyles, Abbie Smith and Ella Henderson in the 200-free relay (1:55.93). The 400-free team of Grace and Clara Livermore, McKenna Krengel and Gulon relayed in 4:11.42 for 28 points and a fifth place finish. Detroit Lakes accumulated 313.5 points to finish above Crookston, Grand Forks Red River, GF Central, Mesabi East, Thief River Falls and Warroad/Roseau/Greenbush-Middle River.
