DETROIT LAKES - The Laker girls’ tennis season started with a 4-3 win over Fergus Falls under the lights, and it ended the same way as DL defeated the Otters 4-3.
Dani Unruh picked up the dual-clinching win in the first meeting and she repeated the act Monday night.
With the team match tied 3-3, Unruh pulled out a competitive second set to earn the win 6-3, 7-5 over Emma Bjerklie.
The rest of the match was even as the Lakers swept all three doubles matches and Fergus Falls took the two through four singles matches.
“We picked up convincing wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, but we had a battle at No. 1 doubles,” Head Coach Tanner Beauchman said.

Devree Bunnis and Carolyn Kinney continued their winning ways at two-doubles with a straight set win two and one.
Maddie Ring and Adrianna Brehm won their three-doubles match in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.
Emma Maguire and Emily Seebold dominated the opening set at one-doubles 6-1, lost the second set 6-1 and were 5-6 down in the third set facing love-40.
“We were literally one point away from losing the dual.”
The Laker duo came back to win the game and force a tiebreaker and won that to take the match 7-6 setting up Unruh for the win.
“It was a great way to end our regular season. We started the match at 6 p.m. because we wanted to play under the lights for our last match.”
The match was important in terms of seeding. The Lakers clinched the sixth seed with the victory while the Otters received the seventh seed.
The North half of the Section 8AA tournament will be held October 6-7 in Grand Forks.
