The Detroit Lakes boys tennis team split four singles matches and swept all three doubles duals to defeat the Lakers 5-2 in Minnewaska Thursday, May 13.

“Very competitive match today,” Detroit Lakes head coach Zach Biggar said. “We have gone back and forth for years with Minnewaska. They are coached well and they always have solid players top to bottom in their lineup.”

Tate Reichmann is the top Minnewaska player and took out Reed Henderson at love.

“Tate is an unbelievable player and has worked his way into the top 10 in the state in single A,” said Biggar. “Reed understood that he was going to have a tough match to start out with so I was happy how hard he fought the entire match.”

Nate Cihak and Austin Miller were both straight set winners at two and three singles, respectively.

“Nate and Austin played great matches and took care of business at their respective spots. Cole ran into a tough opponent at four.

Jordan Fields and Gabe Reller were the lone doubles winners to finish a match in straight sets.

Connor Zamzo and Gavin Smith dropped the opener 6-2, before rallying for a 6-1 ,6-4 victory in the top doubles match.

In the three spot, Parker Davis and Breck Winter won a tiebreaker in the first and third sets to earn the victory.

“Doubles were tight all day,” Biggar said. “I don't think we came out particularly strong but found a way to navigate our way to three victories. We could have very easily lost this match 2-5. We definitely need to keep working at practice and focus as much as we can going into sections soon.”

Detroit Lakes (8-4) will wrap up the regular season hosting Osakis Monday, May 17. Play begins at 5 p.m.
